Sloppy Book...

I am currently taking a two week elective that is designed around this book in order to help me learn ECG's. There are several positives about the book. First, there are numerous examples (hundreds) of ECG's with explanations that help one learn. Second, the nice 10-day format is designed well with not too much info on a particular day. However, there are so many blatant mistakes in the book that I don't see how anyone could use this book as their only reference material for ECG's. There are so many mistakes that it is embarrassing. The mistakes consist of misprints and lack of completeness in the answer key. Therefore I am doing ok using the book because I attend a two-hour class every day with a Cardiologist that explains the blunders. If you do not have this luxury I advise either going with another book or buying a second book to help with your understanding. Best of luck...

Examples galore. Great practice book

Although not as well-organized as Dubin. This is a great book with TONS of practice ECGs. I used this in the few weeks before starting internship and it put me in great shape for starting reading ECGs immediately.

Topic Well Developed !!!!!!!!!!

I am giving 5 stars to this book due to the following reasons: (1) The book is very complete on the subject. The author does not only explain based on his experience but also he is deeping enough in theory so there is a good balance. (2) The explanation on the "belief patters" is very good and this topic is interrelated in several chapters. (3) You can find very interesting statements well supported like the followings: "Being happy in the face of adversity is the best way to defeat adversity"; "When the attack is made to control the individual to whom the thoughts are directed, regardless of the reasons for such control, this psychic attack is an act of moral malpractice, more commonly referred to as black magic"; "It is always better to develop the moral nature than to simply seek spiritual power"; "The only true purpose for magical practice is for the elevation of the human soul through the demonstration of the living presence of the Creator of all things"; "Most spirits lose all of their vital energy in the first attack"; "Any attack by a spirit of the human dead is not usually successful"; "Once we have broken our negative speech habits, we can begin to break our negative thought patterns";" The person with a trained mind has few or no belief patterns within their mind. They hold nothing sacred except their Creator". (4) I have already explained in one of my previous reviews for this author, the book is well explained, clear, and with real life examples of a real magician with deep knowledge. (5) The author provides useful exercises, etc.

I wish the author could deep more in the following statement with more evidence or real examples even though it is a sensitive statement: "It might be well to point out here that those who have teachers who pass through mediums have them because they have not yet earned the right to a living spiritual teacher. True spiritual teachers are living human beings who will speak your language and who will communicate with you face-to-face".

I don't agree with the author regarding the following statement: "Possession by demons and devils is always a mental pathology" and even though I have not had any direct experience regarding this topic, I have read several books on the topic (Gabriele Amorth, Corrado Balducci, and Jose Antonio Fortea among others authors). If the author would have explained this topic deep enough to change my mind about it, I would probably have had to change my belief pattern or at least to modify it.

There is a lot of very interesting information in this book. I recommend it.

I have read (I think) all of Draja's books, and hold all of them close to me, but this one actually brought me to tears. The information in this book is far more then the title reveals it self to be. The kind words at the end of chapter 7 have given me more inspiration then any book has ever given me. The human mind is an on going machine which requires conscious guidance on our end of the spectrum to achieve harmony within our selves. Thank you Draja for this publication!!!

As the founder of MIT's Media Lab and a popular columnist for Wired, Nicholas Negroponte has amassed a following of dedicated readers. Negroponte's fans will want to get a copy of Being Digital, which is an edited version of the 18 articles he wrote for Wired about "being digital."

Negroponte's text is mostly a history of media technology rather than a set of predictions for future technologies. In the beginning, he describes the evolution of CD-ROMs, multimedia, hypermedia, HDTV (high-definition television), and more. The section on interfaces is informative, offering an up-to-date history on visual interfaces, graphics, virtual reality (VR), holograms, teleconferencing hardware, the mouse and touch-sensitive interfaces, and speech recognition.

Still digital after all these years

As old as this book is (35, in internet years), it is still visionary. Lucid, interesting, lively reading. Conversational. I'm not in an e-commerce company but I want to understand something of the changes ahead as we move to an information-based economy. If that's you, too, read this book, along with Berners-Lee's Weaving the Web; then read Evans and Wurster's Blown to Bits and (maybe) Kelly's New Rules for the New Economy, and you will have a bunch of new ideas, I promise.
I wish I'd read this book when it first came out.

Get Digital!

What is Digital? Is it merely as simple as the "information superhighway?" Or, is it a complex web of intermingled electronics destined to replace everything home, hearth and workplace?
In this, the Technology Age, one is lead to believe it's either get on the bandwidth-to modify the phrase--or die a slow, excruciating information death, like a victim of Civil War Gangrene.
Negroponte takes all us pseudo-techies, the ones who are too ashamed to admit they just don't quite get `it', and guides us down the path of digital history. As a founder of MIT's Media Lab, a place where technology is studied for fun and academics, Negroponte is certainly qualified to discuss such things. He does so comfortably and simply, explaining digital technology in a concise and entertaining manner. The format is precise, the prose is easy-to-read. This is a man one could truly envision enjoying a cup of microwaved coffee with.
Negroponte explains technological history and its implications on society in basic terms that any literate luddite could process. The premise is based in a clever analogy: Atoms (the real, tangible items we see, touch, use each day) vs. Bits (it's the packets of information stupid!). Atoms are the tangible stuff that comprise everything physical; bottled water, books, computers. Bits are the invisibly-invisible minute pieces of information upon which much of modern society relies; credit as we swipe our bankcard at the grocery; on-demand instant information via the web; e-mail rather than antiquated parchment air-mail letters.
Understanding the digital phenomenon is easy with Negroponte. The chapters are almost flashcard/sound bite like. A brief introduction is followed by sub-sections that explain the technical stuff and offer familiar real-life comparisons. The chapter on bandwidth (that same bandwidth everyone seems to be bent on increasing these days) gives an account of what bandwidth means; its potential (more TV channels fer g'dsake!), and its complications (if government rations out bandwidth to a few big-media conglomerates, public access will be restricted and we'll have to pay more for those channels). Negroponte also discusses some failures in the digital age, HDTV for one. His thesis? HDTV? Been there, seen it, done it, forget it! Give me Digital-it's clearer, faster, and it's interactive.
The book is filled with visceral descriptions that relate technology to real life. Examples such as driving 160 KMP per hour are compared to faxing at 1.2 mbps (millions of bits per second). This is how fast we can and should want to be transferring those bits back and forth to each other.
Negroponte foresees potential benefits for citizens of a digital society. In the on-demand digitized marketplace, customers are still real people but their merchants become the computer. Thus, each of us has the potential to request what we want, (a TV program or an airline ticket) when we want it, where we want it, and at the price we want to pay. Think pay-per-view and priceline.com.
We will also have the capability of becoming more intelligent and time proficient thanks to pc browsers capable of knowing what we want on screen-even before we demand it. One need only look at the recent ads for etour.com, "surf without searching." (You register, get profiled, and are instantly delivered websites matching your interests).
However, some criticized Negroponte as being too optimistic. Technology that can recognize our eyeprint? Who cares? And then there's the popular fear of Internet addiction and the thought that all this info-on-demand will create generations of solitary, mouse-clicking, chip-crunching moles. Negroponte believes rather than become isolated, technology and computers connect us to cultures, people and ideas previously inaccessible to the average person--even if we have been sitting alone at the computer screen for three days running.
Some of Negroponte's scenarios may have seemed fantastical in 1995, but we truly have come to see many of his visions as day-to-day reality-cars with satellite navigation systems, recordable CDs, `intelligent interfacers' (our personalized browsers). Rather than go west young man, we should be cheering Be Digital! Thanks to Negroponte, we know why.

Having explored the thinking of Alan Watts, who coined the term ‘Beat Zen’, and who influenced the counterculture which emerged out of the Beat movement, it celebrates Jack Kerouac as a writer in pursuit of a ‘beatific’ vision. On this basis, the book goes on to explain the relevance of Kerouac and his friends Allen Ginsberg and Gary Snyder to songwriters who emerged in the 1960s. Not only are new, detailed readings of the lyrics of the Beatles and of Dylan given, but the range and depth of the Beat legacy within popular song is indicated by way of an overview of some important innovators: Jim Morrison, Joni Mitchell, Leonard Cohen, Donovan, the Incredible String Band, Van Morrison and Nick Drake.

"Watts" it all about, Alan???"

This is a fine publication for several reasons; it does indeed explore the music and poetry of the Beats, BUT it goes forther in showing us much about Alan Watts, a pivotal figure in the whole West Coast Beats scene, and tells us of his differing versions of Zen which he espoused, as a professor and as a clergyman in the Episcopal Church (before he resigned in a bit of a huff over what to believe and what not to believe). I think all could benefit from reading this volume.....and appreciate the musical parts as well!

This book is destined to become one of my re-read favorites

Murry Hope lives up to her name in this book and brings us the hope that in the future our planet will take its rightful place in the universal evolutionary process - a place which has been denied to us creatures on earth since our planet became entangled in a matrix which trapped us and isolated us from the rest of the universe. Murry believes the Atlanteans and the Egyptians had contact on a regular basis with the inhabitants of other planets, especially in the Siriun system. Remnants of the knowledge they posses are still available in the few texts remaining to us, and through psychic communication such as that which Murry is able to achieve. If these notions strike a chord with you, I recommend you read this book. If you are open to the idea of Atlantis, are fascinated by the Egyptian civilisation and the miracles it wrought and would like to understand some of what they knew, then read this book. If you believe that mortal human life is only one tiny part of our complete existence as souls seeking the light and our soul-mates, Murry has support and encouragement for you. If you suspect that there are secrets out there which might help you lead a better life, and want to bring these things to other people too, then read the book. And if you have gazed at the stars in the heavens above at night and wondered why they have such a strong magical and magnetic appeal to us humans, then read this book. And consider the meaning of the gnostic mantra, which Murry repeats throughout the book, ---AS ABOVE, SO BELOW

Not What I Expected

When I purchased this book I expected another volume on a par with Ms. Hope's excellent "Practical Techniques of Psychic Self Defense." But as one with experience in history, astronomy, astrology and the physical sciences, I find Ms. Hope's preoccupation with extraterrestrials from Sirius in this book somewhat hard to digest. This book called to mind the movie "Star Gate", which I liked, but I certanly don't believe it has any real historical or religious significance. This book would appeal to the "Chariots of the Gods" person - if you liked that one you'll love this. If you're a bit more pragmatic you may not find this book all that enjoyable.
But every coin has a flip side. Ms. Hope's descriptions of the Egyptian deities were well done and made for fascinating reading. Also the discussions about "sonics" were extremely interesting. And buried within the talk about ETs are gems of wisdom that are amazing and revealing. The choice to buy this book or not is yours - all in all, I'm glad I bought it.

Outstanding, excellent - I can't praise it enough!

The more I read of this book, the more everything started to click into place. This is a book of hope that there will be a future after all - particularly if you follow it up with the author's "The Lion People" and "Paschats and the Crystal People". I found this book by chance, I'd never heard of Murry Hope - now I'm in the process of reading everything I can find by this author.

Too complicated!! Not a good book for students

Each case study requires too specific knowledge. The content is not very well-organized and it is so confusing. Difficult to understand. You will not get the point of how to do engineering design from this book. Don't recommend.!!! Waste time, waste money!!

Great book for practising engineers

I am a practising mechanical design engineer and I found this book to be of great practical value. It is not only instructional but also is very enjoyable to read. Unless some other design books that cover a lot of theory (which is good for reference) but not very representative of real-world, this one is of immense practical value.

The book is a compilation of case studies from the author's personal experience. The author recognizes how a design engineer is often faced with challenges from a variety of different engineering problems; so the author tries to cover a variety of different design activities and situations that one would face in real world. The topics covered include basic design, costing, detailed engineering design -fits and tolerancing, quality ISO 9000, failure analysis, ergonomics, total design etc. The author provides the background of the project, explains the relevant engineering topic or activity in context to the project and how it can be used to solve the design problem. He keeps the explanation very clear and readable. At the same time he provides enough technical information and calculations whenever necessary. There are also several Illustrations, flowcharts, tables etc to aid in understanding the problem, help in design planning and pointing out to various stardard references. The authors also explores the role of innovation and how it can be used in context of well established standards and principles.

The only complaint I could have is that the author sometimes explains the problem background and gives the relevant knowledge needed to solve the problem and leaves it up to the reader to finish it as a case-study. It would have been very useful to have the complete soultion. However I guess the author wanted to replicate real world scenario and make us think and work so that we get a better understanding of the principle being addressed.

Highly recommended!

Great for beginners, recommended

I enjoyed this instructional book equally as much as I did the other book from Dorothy Wood, "The Bead Jewellery Bible". I do not remember if I bought a New or Like New copy, but it appears to be in perfectly acceptable Like New condition, and came packaged well; no creases, folds, or damage to corners. This book was perfect for a novice beader like myself, and has taught me so much more than I would have figured out on my own.

The Beader's Bible

This is a really good book. The lists of items needed for each project, the clear, multi-colored pattern illustrations, and the close-up photos of the actual work in progress make this a great book for beginners and more experienced beaders learning new tricks. Also, the wide range of stitch instructions, including knitting and crocheting with beads, means I will always be using this book to learn more, or refresh my memory.

The Beader's Bible would be perfect if it had about 20 more pages of project patterns, but I guess you can't have everything!

Better left for the beading novice

I bought this book because it sounded so interesting to me. The more I read it the more I realized that I knew most of what was in the book. I have been beading for 3 years now going on 4 and I have my own jewelry company. This book would be great for the beading novice. It is chocked full of information for those just starting out. It wasn't for me but, beginners will love it.
