I think this should be the first book anyone reads on DDD.

The DDD community has needed an easy-to-read book for a long time. This is definitely that book.

I've read Evan's big blue book twice, and while incredibly useful, it is frustratingly hard to follow in places, and is frustratingly verbose. This book by Scott Millett is the complete opposite. Apart from the odd awkward sentence, it is very easy to understand what the authors are trying to say, and they definitely cover all of the advanced topics from the big blue book. To be fair, because this book is newer, it also contains modern advances in DDD like CQRS and Event Sourcing.

Decent DDD book, one of very few

Domain Modeling is hard. Teaching & presenting about Domain Modeling is even harder (I've tried it, honest word). Writing a *good* book about Domain Modeling is ninja-level challenge. And fortunately PPPofDDD is a *good* book about Domain Modeling. Maybe it's more 4.5 stars than 5, but I still believe it's more 5 than 4. Why?

1.) Author does not try to re-tell The Blue Book. I really, really had the honest feeling that his greatest intention was to show how do you use DDD principles while building actual systems. Not just on line-of-code level. And what's important, I think he did it well, at least clearly better than VV in Red Book.

2.) It's quite easy to write about desing in a boring way: either because you being too abstract (only conceptual notions) or to specific (by diving deep into the examples you readers do not give an f-word). But to be honest this book is not boring -> maybe it's author's writing style. Anyway, this book is in general more pleasant to read (& more engaging) than both Blue and Red Book.

3.) There are plenty of references (incl. all examples) to .NET! ;) Ok, it may not be a Pro for everyone, but I appreciate it.

4.) Part IV (which I initially expected a total shit & 'space-filler') appeared to be the best part of the book - very practical & pragmatic. Even if I don't necessarily agree with all the statements (or rather - with some I agree with 'yes, but ...' suffix :>), I really like all the thoughts gathered in such a clear & approachable way.

5.) Any specific points made I've found useful? Yes, some about composability (bounded context & dependencies between them), state pattern & lazy loading.

Cons? Yes, some:

1.) They were at least few examples that didn't really add much value - either too obvious or too bloated (what makes me feel they miss the point or don't have any).

2.) Chapters 9 & 10 are surprisingly shallow. I've kinda expected more. Fortunately book compensates it later.

To summarize: it's a very good book about DDD. It doesn't change the fact that you're supposed to read Blue Book first anyway. But if you're about to choose whether read this one or Red Book ("Implementing DDD"), I believe that PPPofDDD is a better choice.

Comprehensive Library of DDD

This is a comprehensive collection of Domain-Driven Design material, all the way from the theory down to specific code examples. The book does a great job of linking together a number of patterns and practices in a coherent way - describing what architectural patterns, and what design patterns work well with DDD. What I particularly liked about this book is the organisation - the theory isn't interrupted with code examples; they are left to the more practical sections. Like Uncle Bob's "Agile Principles, Patterns, and Practices" books, "Patterns, Principles, and Practices of Domain-Driven Design" is a bit like owning a collection of books on the subject.

This book is amazing! I purchased it with the plan of starting to write some of my own bits. I wrote one or two but never pursued it much further because life got in the way. I will say, however, that it was still very much a worthwhile purchase if for no other reason than learning more about the mechanics of comedy has actually allowed me to appreciate just watching and listening to comedy even more!

After you get the basics, John Vorhaus helps you understand what makes it funny and what slows it down and shows you how to get the laugh instead of just head nods because they realize you are ironic. I highly recommend this book for anyone looking to write humor on demand. Other books interview humorists and share tips for doing stand-up, while managing to never actually give you a single tool to write a joke. John immediately takes you by the hand and gets you writing jokes on any subject, in a variety of styles.

I would love to see John write a book focused on the Comic Strip and similar short form humor.

Lance breaks new ground on Able Danger

While I was deciding how I should start a review of Peter Lance's new book - I remembered a quote from Monica Gabrielle, one of the 9/11 widows, in a documentary about 9/11: "The one thing that I personally was hoping for was another Woodward and Bernstein with regard to 9/11. Someone, anyone that was willing to put their teeth into this."

Well, we have found that person, and his name is Peter Lance. In his third book on the origins of the 9/11 plot and the failures of the FBI and others to stop the attack, Lance focuses on Ali Mohamed - yet another figure relegated to footnotes in the "9/11 Report" who Lance shows played a central role in Al Qaeda's plan of attack. Not only did he help create the "Brooklyn Cell" which supported the 9/11 hijackers, but he wrote the training manual for Al Qaeda and created training camps for hijackers, all while the FBI thought he was on their side as an informant!

The best part of Triple Cross is the way Lance weaves together the different strands of the 9/11 story and enhances them with his own original reporting on each. For example, the book quotes from numerous interviews Lance conducted with Tony Shaffer, Curt Weldon, and other members of the Able Danger team. While not a full history of Able Danger, it has by far the most complete version in any book published to date.

Some have expressed frustration at the delays in publication, but I can attest to the fact that Lance needed the extra time in order to include all of the latest details from the interviews National Geographic conducted for their documentary based on his book, and the latest developments in the Able Danger and Greg Scarpa Jr. scandals. It is a great read, and uncovers a lot of new information about the 9/11 plot.

The best single book on Terrorism in print!!!!!!!

With out a Doubt the best single book on Terrorism in print. triple Cross by Peter Lance out paces the 9-11 commission report, the Looming Tower, and the Cell by a long shot (those sources all have value, But Lance shows us what they left out). Lance does an excellent investigated job hear (the book is well source and documented), of explaining the raise of OBL, and AlQuada, he shows us what the FBI knew and didn't know, what The Clinton Administration knew did not know and the Bush Administration as well. lance shows us the mistakes and outright incompetence in our government (especially the FBI). Lance names names and holds nothing back. The book is worth ten times the price for the 23 page timeline on terrorism alone. This is a must read for anyone wanted to know the whole story of 9-11 and beyond.

Peter Lance has got to be the best...

...investigative journalist in the world...UN...BE...LIEVE...ABLE. If you have an interest in 911, or even America's national security, force yourself to order this book. This book goes beyond just education, and is rather a unique opportunity to see a master investigator at work. If you have a chance to hear Lance speak, I recommend that too, as he is engaging to say the least.

Lance simply checks out everyone's stories, interviews all the players from all over the world, connects the dots, and leaves nothing to heresay. Five years of investigation by Lance, who seems to be the master of investigative journalism. Lance meticulously collected about 150 volumes of records[see the full 2 hour CSPAN talk]. Lance's facts(which you can see summarized in his website's timeline[right top on [...]) are considerately buffered with valuable context(therefore the 600 pages!).

It sickens me to understand one self-financed journalist could do so much while the FBI did so little. Although Lance asserts there is no Oliver Stone parrallel government type conspiracy and chalks up all the FBI fiascos as incompetence and covering up their embarrassment; one has to question whether the possibility of a real conspiracy should be left open, considering the enormous breadth of the incompetence...and considering that rank-and-file FBI [and others] hollered so loudly while their superiors quieted them. Lance of course also connects the dots[and outlines how others in the government that connected the embarrassing dots were punished]. I originally was turned onto his book after seeing his two hour jaw dropping talk on CSPAN. This guy deserves a special medal higher than the Medal of Freedom for his service to Truth and people everywhere. I'd like to see Mel Gibson or some other independent produce this into a movie.

I found this book to be a very easy read. I enjoyed it very much. Once I picked it up, I couldn't put it down. It's uplifting, warm, encouraging, and I would highly recommend it to others.

Surrender All is a well written book and it tell about the author and her family and many more on her TV show. Joni Lamb is a tremendous Christian wife and mother. I bought two of her books one for my daughter and one for me.

Quick, interesting read

"Surrender All: Your Answer To Living with Peace, Power & Purpose" by Joni Lamb is a fairly quick, easy read that at times can come across as a little trite especially if you have recently suffered a type of crisis or tragedy in your life that she addresses in the book. However, just when you decide that she is oversimplifying some of life's greatest struggles, Mrs. Lamb will surprise you with a thought-provoking statement.

She discusses surrender in several areas of our lives such as marriage, children, career, and loss. Joni recounts dramatic, almost unbelievable at times, stories of extraordinary people who have had to surrender to God in the most difficult of circumstances. In fact, some of the stories she shares could have entire books written about them and really couldn't be covered in depth enough in this book which left me feeling as though she were a little bit flippant with them.

She also uses her own personal experience to share her uplifting, encouraging message of surrendering your all to God. Joni constantly reassures us that God will mend and restore all aspects of our lives including finances, health and relationships if we will just surrender them to Him. However, she is also very careful to make sure we understand that God hasn't promised us a life of ease as His children and that surrender doesn't guarantee a worry-free existence. Sometimes she flirts a little with the "prosperity gospel" or "name it and claim it theology" but mostly her advice seems to be grounded in Scripture. Most importantly, she makes sure to share the most significant story of surrender: Jesus.

Overall, Mrs. Lamb's book is an interesting read that should encourage you to examine your own life for areas that need surrender in order to bring about the peace you are longing for.

they're extremely brief which isn't always a bad thing, but if you are a beginner oftentimes ...

I honestly have no idea how this book has such a high rating, especially considering it has over 150 reviews. For one the book is written in an extremely pretentious, non-beginner friendly manner. Much of the time explanations of programming syntax, data types, structure etc... are given using program language definitions and/or concepts which have yet to be explained. This makes for an extremely difficult read, often times I would have to google terms and C++ programming concepts just to understand a simple paragraph. The explanations on top of this are not thorough, they're extremely brief which isn't always a bad thing, but if you are a beginner oftentimes concepts need to be explicitly demonstrated, not simply skimmed over to permanently implant the information in your head.

The information in the book is not linear and accumulative in its teaching style. There are few practical examples of the concepts being explained, and when they are, the code examples are poor and include too much unnecessary code which makes it hard for the example's important aspects to be the focal point. I would not recommend this book to anyone trying to learn C++, this book if anything is more for someone who has already learned the language and just needs a refresher course. Please do yourself a favor, if you are not already a professional programmer, don't buy this book and instead use the endless amount of free C++ tuotrials on the web which are far superior to any of the information contained in the book.

Useless for experienced programmers; mildly useful for beginners

I've been a programmer since 2002, and my background is mainly in PHP. In reading this book, it's completely geared towards new PROGRAMMERS, not new *C++* developers.

Pros:
1. If you're completely new to programming, it'll teach you the very basic concepts of programming.
2. If you want an extremely high overview of the language just to get your feet wet, then you might find it interesting.

Cons:
1. It only has scraps of information, and I had to look up what the author meant by certain topics. [restricted, volatile]
2. There is lots of information on things that are bad practice, for example "goto" and [in most cases] "switch."
3. The author made the remark that, "some programmers refer to functions as methods, procedures, or sub-routines. [page 67]" However, a method is not just a function; a method is a function **which is a part of a class or object**. The fact that he never clarified the difference leaves his credibility on the line. [See: [...](computer_programming)]
4. Some topics, such as casting are never fully discussed, nor are they documented in how to cast.
5. The author explains *what* you can do in C++, rarely explains *how* to do it, and never explains the benefits or drawbacks of the techniques described where it relates to code efficiency.
6. Sometimes he has a critical type, such as on page 26 where the same code is copy and pasted twice.

Also, on page 72, he forgot the "s" in "parameters," thus insinuating that only the last one parameter may have a default value, while in reality, all parameters may have them, yet it only makes sense to add a default value to the last parameters [with an "s"]. He never says why, but it's obvious when you try to utilize the function or method.

The last sentence of the chapter states that the return value influences whether or not a default parameter value is utilized.

Very informative and easy to understand C++ course programming. This book has everything which i want and everything is explained very well. The book explained in a very easy way and gives all the basic information you need to know to start programming with further deeper explanations of how does it work and what you can do. It takes a very basic approach, which is helpful for me as a beginner. I have really enjoyed learning the basics of programming from this book.

The message was good, but the author didn't proofread or have someone else review the book because it was published. Several sentences were awkward or simply didn't make sense, several instances of simple incorrect grammar (your vs you're), and he kept calling the read "my friend or bud". Otherwise, it was interesting.

I think this book had some quality insights on the matter of non verbal interpersonal communication. With a well thought out execution and explanation. I wish he had gone into the details a bit more, but I understand he wanted to make it suitable for the most amount of people.

It's perfect for learning how to use eye contact. I have used its ideas and have learned how to make conversation with men better and especially with woman.
