Great!

After finishing the first book, I wasn't too sure I wanted this one, but I am so glad I bought it! I fell in love with Abby in the first book and I loved her even more now. It was nice to see her soft side. Noel, oh my gosh! What can I say about him that won't spoil the story...Just wow. (You gotta read this to know what I'm talking about) And Emily was a good character too, I just feel like I still don't really know her that well.
Overall, I liked Metamorphosis more than Ordained and I am looking forward to the next book!

Metamorphasis a great follow up to Ordained.

I am a HUGE fan of Devon Ashley's books. What's not to love? Metamorphosis is the second book in the Immortal Archives series. It picks up where Ordained left off, and is a stronger, better book than the first. If you liked Ordained, you are in for a treat in this second installment. The plot pacing is just right, with enough action to keep you turning the page. You can tell Devon put a lot into this book. There are so many twists, and some shocking betrayls. It really keeps you guessing. I love that in a book. Nothing irks me more than knowing what is going to happen a few chapters in. Devon's books are different from a lot of stories out there. The ideas are fresh, and not overplayed.

I was really excited that Emily played a bigger role in this book, and we get to learn more about her character. I really liked her in the last book. In Metamorphosis, Emily is going through her transformation. Abby and Noel are there to help her at first. Then in light of a situation that I won't describe here, Emily is stuck trying to figure things out on her own. She really grows a lot as a character and has some hard experiences. Through it all, Emily is caring and loyal, and I dig that about her.

I really can't say much about what is going on with Abby and Noel without giving away some major plot elements - but boy, you'll be surprised by everything they're going through. I can't wait for the next book in the series so that I can see how everything plays out.

A sequel with substance!

The middle books in a series often tend to be "filler" books but Metamorphosis was actually better than its predecessor. She continued to develop her main characters individually and in relation to each other, which was great, and she threw in a few plot twists that really made for a fun read. There is a bit of cliff-hanger at the end, obviously setting up for the third book, but the plot was tied up nicely enough that you didn't feel like you'd been abruptly cut off. The pace was great -- excellent action or climatic scenes interspersed with slower moments of character/background development. It really let you get a better sense of the story without being bored with endless backstories and explanations or rushed through. There were a few grammar/spelling/syntax issues if you want to be nit-picky (i.e. she constantly spells "piqued" as "peaked") but none were overly distracting. Overall, it was interesting, fast-paced, and well-written. Well done, Devon Ashley!

About the Author

Anatole France (pseudonym of Jacques Anatol Thibault, 1844- 1924) was the most prominent French man of letters of his time. France's style was precise, elegant, gentle, ironic, and humorous. He was elected to the French Academy, and in 1921 was awarded the Nobel Prize in literature. Some of his other works include The Aspirations of Jean Servien, The Revolt of the Angels, and Penguin Island.

Brilliantly-written and a superb old novel

Jealousy, theater, joy, church, affairs, revenge, tragedy, stalking, suicide, and much more can be found herein!

A young man is quite amourous toward a gregarious, young stage actress but she leads him on. He's also burdened with a solid competitor for her affections. The young man's emotional journey, tenoned with the shrewd and subtle humor of the work, will hold the reader's attention to the very end.

The author, Anatole France, (a pseudonym for Jacques Anatole Thibault, 1844-1924), was one of the great novelists of his day. He was a very prolific writer in the mainstream of French classicism.

"A Mummer's Tale," (aka, "Histoire Comique") was written in 1903 but remains timeless in its certainty to entertain those who enjoy a good, solid novel. If you're a bit apathetic about the dreary selection of novels on the current market, this fine story might just make you a huge fan of Anatole France.

A masterwork of readable late-1800s literature!

Here, we have a fine novel, not much heard of, by a Master of the light fiction genre. I don't know why it hasn't caught on like wildfire other than, perhaps, the academics at the various colleges have somehow overlooked it and have thus not promoted it to students.

It's the story of two prospective lovers of a woman, a vain theater actress, who is also a bit of a tease. One of these fellows lusts for her moreso than the second, (the more confident of the two), which leads the former down a path of dubious decisions. The actress, being a tease and not a big thinker as well, will leave MEN who read this book wishing to strangle her just a little and from time to time. *.*

But that is the beauty of this book -- the reader becomes engaged in the action from the very start. This is the Hallmark of France's craft-work.

This volume work pretty much offers up all the reasons that we read great fiction including, drama, love, religion, jealousy, and, in this instance, suicide -- a really shocking one.

So, about the time you feel that you've read all that is worth reading, try this one and you'll have found yet another. I really thoroughly enjoyed this one.

Dr. Scott Isaksen is President of the Creative Problem Solving Group, and Senior Fellow of its Creativity Research Unit. A former professor and director of the Center for Studies in Creativity at Buffalo State College, he has published over 130 books, articles and chapters in books. This is probably what I consider as the Bible in the realm of Physical Therapy. I have had this book ever since I was in college and it has proven to be valuable to me now that I am in my 11th year of practice as it was when I was still in my budding internship. I consider the cases found at the end of every chapter as the most helpful and insightful and for anyone hooked on evidence-based treatment strategies, this book is a must. Ms. Sullivan's work is seminal and phenomenal!

Inspirational

Very heart warming and touching. I could not put this book down. If you plan on reading make sure you have a box of tissues near. This book gives life new perspective. The author conveys a very heartfelt account of his very personal life knowing that he has limited time on earth with his very young son. It will change your life as you will find new appreciation for the "little things" in life that really mean the most.

How sad for a Father to know how short his time on earth is but how wonderful for him to pour his heart and soul into letters that that will allow him (Bryce) to get to know him after his Father has passed.

What a great tribute to his son! I had a difference of opinion on several of Shaun's belief's but then again...who am I to judge? This is between him and his son Bryce and Shaun tried to be as honest and forthwright as he could with the time he had left.

I applaud Shaun.
