The story was good but the ending was an exact copy of the first book and the personal relationships are so weird. The main characters are in love, he leaves because he's afraid of the gods after him and then his fiancé takes up with the guy who beat him half to death twice and spent the first 2 books saying how much a commoner and noble couldn't be together, the girl says he stupid for thinking that way but it only a takes a week to forgive him all those sins and like that he's taken an interest in her. The ending felt forced and the adding of personal drama for the next book was so out of place it just felt awkward

A Disappointing Sequel

A good story if you like reading the same story, with the same ending, but with a new title. The ending ruins the rest of the book. Lacks originality and credibility based off what had happened just pages earlier.
I find Christi's interactions with Travis a little too unbelievable for having barely a week pass between Travis nearly killing Alex and her becoming his buddy. I think the author may have forgot that most people hold grudges for more than a few days, especially if there "Loved One" had been seriously beaten by the person just days earlier. I understand Travis thoughts "Let's make friends with Christi so she will stop the MAGE I beat several times, before he came into his power, from killing me next time we meet".
I see it as a Serious Flaw in Christi's character / morals, that she would associate with him at all.
Almost makes me want to drop it to a 2 star.
I also find the whole "Let's pull the 1st year students into our war efforts" a rather over done cliche. Really a good plan for long tern kingdom survival, send in the untrained (under trained) Wizards & Sorcerers and see how quickly we can get them killed off.

so SPOILER ALERT. our daring hero runs away from everything AND his GF starts having feelings for his foppish enemy after like hes gone for like 3 weeks...wow if the author wanted me to start hating christi's character congratulations, you succeeded.
